“May’s Gone, it’s Saturday Nite”
The New Arroyo Collective 'recording band' features drummer Carlos Knox, John Knox's son. Paul and John grew up together in the 1960s and John taught Paul how to play guitar as a teenager. Carlos certainly received some of John's amazing musicality! Carlos' drumming lifts the song to a new groove station. Carlos plays in other bands in the northwest, notably the John Kessler Band.
Returning members of the loose collective, Johnnie Bamont (Huey Lewis & The News) on tenor sax who plays regularly with Greg Adams & East Bay Soul and, George Shaw on flugelhorn (Wilton Felder, Ronnie Laws, Tim Heintz) bring the song to life with some tasty arranging by Johnnie on the horn parts. And each of their solos rings in it's own seductive way making the dancers move.
Scott Thunes brings the bass (Frank Zappa, The Waterboys, Fear), Paul's other musical teenaged jam band legend. Paul dB's guitar parts, reflective keyboard tracks, and haiku chorus vocals, round out the tune. Enjoy!
In 1957 John Knox was born on a Saturday...June 1st (May was gone, it was a Saturday nite...),
"I thought about John while I arranged and recorded this song..."
